Grassy slopes in Sichuan and Yunnan Provinces[266]. Moist ground and grassy slopes, often along the sides of tracks, at elevations of 700 - 4000 metres in Nepal[272].

E. Asia - Himalayas from Kashmir to Nepal and China.

Usages médicinaux

  • The plant is aromatic, astringent and tonic [240].
  • It is useful in the treatment of agues [240].
  • The juice of the root is used in the treatment of diarrhoea and dysentery [272].
  • The leaves are used in the treatment of fevers as a substitute for quinine [240].

Culture

  • We have very little information on this species and do not know if it will be hardy in Britain, though judging by its native range it should succeed outdoors at least in the milder parts of this country .

  • Prefers a humus-rich, moisture retentive soil and a sunny position [200].
